πΌ About iSimangaliso Wetland Park
iSimangaliso (meaning βmiracleβ in isiZulu) is South Africaβs first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park protects lakes, wetlands, forests, dunes, and rich wildlifeβsupporting conservation and community development. Since 2010, the bursary programme has helped 140+ students study fields linked to environmental protection and tourism.
π What the Bursary Covers
Partial funding and support, including:
- π» Laptop + internet data
- π Travel to and from campus
- π½οΈ Meals and basic study supplies
Plus extra support:
- π Academic tutoring
- π§ Counselling & mentorship
- π οΈ Career skills workshops
- π Community volunteering during holidays
β Who Can Apply?
You must:
βοΈ Be a South African citizen
βοΈ Live in an iSimangaliso land-claimant community, uMkhanyakude District, or Sokhulu (Mfolozi Local Municipality)
βοΈ Be starting 1st year in 2026
βοΈ Study Conservation, Tourism, or a related field
βοΈ Be accepted at UKZN, UniZulu, MUT, or DUT
βοΈ Have applied for or received NSFAS
βοΈ Show genuine interest in nature & environmental protection

Step 2: Prepare certified documents:
- ID copy
- NSFAS proof
- University acceptance/registration letter
- Proof of residence
- Community confirmation letter (if applicable)
