The iSimangaliso Wetland Park Bursary Programme is open and ready to support students from local communities with funding plus academic and life-skills support.

๐Ÿ’ผ About iSimangaliso Wetland Park

iSimangaliso (meaning โ€œmiracleโ€ in isiZulu) is South Africaโ€™s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park protects lakes, wetlands, forests, dunes, and rich wildlifeโ€”supporting conservation and community development. Since 2010, the bursary programme has helped 140+ students study fields linked to environmental protection and tourism.


๐ŸŽ What the Bursary Covers

Partial funding and support, including:

  • ๐Ÿ’ป Laptop + internet data
  • ๐Ÿš Travel to and from campus
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Meals and basic study supplies

Plus extra support:

  • ๐Ÿ“š Academic tutoring
  • ๐Ÿง  Counselling & mentorship
  • ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Career skills workshops
  • ๐ŸŒ Community volunteering during holidays

โœ… Who Can Apply?

You must:
โœ”๏ธ Be a South African citizen
โœ”๏ธ Live in an iSimangaliso land-claimant community, uMkhanyakude District, or Sokhulu (Mfolozi Local Municipality)
โœ”๏ธ Be starting 1st year in 2026
โœ”๏ธ Study Conservation, Tourism, or a related field
โœ”๏ธ Be accepted at UKZN, UniZulu, MUT, or DUT
โœ”๏ธ Have applied for or received NSFAS
โœ”๏ธ Show genuine interest in nature & environmental protection

Step 1: Download and complete the bursary application form

Step 2: Prepare certified documents:

  • ID copy
  • NSFAS proof
  • University acceptance/registration letter
  • Proof of residence
