Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science, and an overall average of at least 50%
- South African citizen
- Completion of a proficiency test to enable registration with SAPC as a learner basic assistant
- Clear criminal and credit checks
Job Overview
The main purpose of this role is to employ learners capable of completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. This course equips learners with knowledge of the major areas of the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing while promoting quality on-the-job learning.
A Dispensary Support staff member under supervision of a pharmacist may perform the following:
- Sell Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assist with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures
- Assist with unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and OTC shelves
- Accurately interpret prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
- Ensure correct picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medications
- Be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions
- Ensure all medication is checked and signed by a pharmacist
- Assist in stock control, including cleanliness, shelf organization, and medicine expiry monitoring
- Follow up with patients regarding prescriptions and appointments as directed
- Handle call centre scripts and patient service telephone calls
- Provide health information to patients and individuals
- Assist with scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV & AIDS, and oncology medications
- Report low stock, out-of-stock levels, or stock errors
- Receive dispensary stock in accordance with SOPs
