As of March 2026, the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Unemployed Educators Database is the official platform for qualified, unemployed educators and therapists to register their profiles and apply for teaching vacancies in public schools across Gauteng Province. This fully digital system can be accessed using a cellphone, tablet, or computer.

How to Register on the GDE Unemployed Educators Database
Follow these steps to create your profile and start applying for vacancies:
- Visit the Official Portal
Access the database here: unemployededucators.gauteng.gov.za. - Create Your Profile
- Click the Register tab and enter your personal details, including your South African ID number, contact information, and address.
- Set a username and secure password (minimum 8 characters).
- A confirmation SMS will be sent after successful registration.
- Complete Your Profile
- Enter your teaching qualifications and SACE registration details to make your profile fully active.
- Apply for Vacancies
- Log in and navigate to the Vacancies tab.
- New teaching and therapist posts, including PL1 educator positions, are advertised weekly.
- Applications must be submitted directly via the portal. Email or fax submissions are not accepted.

Types of Teaching Posts Available
Applicants may encounter different categories of teaching positions:
- Substantive Posts: Temporary, funded positions eligible for conversion to permanent posts after three months.
- Substitute Posts: Temporary roles covering educators on leave (maternity or illness); not eligible for permanent conversion.
- Growth Posts: Emergency temporary posts created due to an increase in learner numbers.
- Against Promotional Posts: Temporary posts while senior positions, such as Head of Department (HOD) or Principal, are vacant.
Important Guidelines for Applicants
- Profile Maintenance: Ensure your profile is complete and updated. Incomplete profiles will prevent you from applying for new posts.
- Anti-Corruption Notice: Educator posts are not for sale. Any requests for payment in exchange for a job are scams. Report to EthicsGDE@gauteng.gov.za or call 011 355 0269.
- Technical Support: For issues such as not receiving OTPs or updating profile information, email Unemployededucators@gauteng.gov.za with your ID number as the subject line.
