About the Role

The University of the Free State (UFS) is seeking Electrical Apprentices to join the Engineering Services team. This is a one-year contract position with the potential for extension, offering hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, installation, and repair across the Bloemfontein campus.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment across the campus.
Learn and apply electrical codes and regulations under supervision.
Collaborate with the maintenance team to troubleshoot electrical issues.
Work closely with senior Electricians to gain practical skills.
Participate in training programs to improve technical knowledge.
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Proficiently use hand tools and electrical equipment.
Follow verbal and written instructions and adhere to safety protocols.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift equipment up to 23kg.
Comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Inherent Job Requirements

Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate at NQF Level 4 (attach certified copy).
Electrical Engineering qualification: N3, N4, N5, or N6 (attach certified copy/copies).
Valid driver’s license (attach certified copy).

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

Basic understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and safety standards.
Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and blueprints.
Experience using hand and power tools.
