About the Role

The University of the Free State (UFS) is seeking Electrical Apprentices to join the Engineering Services team. This is a one-year contract position with the potential for extension, offering hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, installation, and repair across the Bloemfontein campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment across the campus.
  • Learn and apply electrical codes and regulations under supervision.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • Work closely with senior Electricians to gain practical skills.
  • Participate in training programs to improve technical knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Proficiently use hand tools and electrical equipment.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions and adhere to safety protocols.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift equipment up to 23kg.
  • Comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Inherent Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate at NQF Level 4 (attach certified copy).
  • Electrical Engineering qualification: N3, N4, N5, or N6 (attach certified copy/copies).
  • Valid driver’s license (attach certified copy).

Recommendations & Competencies

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and blueprints.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
