What is a Section 18.2 Learnership?

A Section 18.2 Learnership is a structured training programme registered under the Skills Development Act. It combines:

Classroom-based theoretical training
Practical workplace experience

Learners will sign a formal learnership agreement registered with the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA), which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be unemployed South African youth and meet one of the following qualifications:

Option 1: Grade 12

Pure Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
Physical Science
English

Option 2: N2 Certificate

Mathematics
Engineering Science
Two additional relevant subjects

Option 3: Engineering NCV Certificate

7 subjects at NQF Level 4

Option 4: Technical Grade 11

Mathematics
Science
Language subject
Trade-related theory subject

Option 5

Relevant N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S or N stream)

A valid driver’s licence will be an advantage but is not compulsory.
