Apprenticeship Training Overview
The apprenticeship programme includes 3 years of structured in-service training aimed at helping apprentices qualify as skilled mechanics.
Training includes:
- Practical workshop training
- Technical and product training
- Distance learning through accredited colleges
- Supplier and specialist training
- Internal AFGRI technical development
The programme is supported through:
- AgriSETA
- MerSETA
Probation Period
The first 6 months of the apprenticeship will serve as a probation period. During this time, both AFGRI and the apprentice can assess suitability for long-term employment and training.
Minimum Requirements

- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Valid driver’s licence
- Computer literacy
- Good communication skills
- Administrative skills
Required Subjects
Applicants must have passed the following subjects:
- English
- Mathematics or Technical Mathematics

Important Information
- Training is free if all phases are passed successfully
- Failed subjects or phases must be repeated at the apprentice’s own cost
- Apprenticeship contracts may not exceed 4 years
- Work-back agreements apply after qualification
