About EWSETA Skills Development Programmes

The Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) empowers unemployed youth and sector employees through skills development, aligning with national priorities for economic growth, employment creation, and poverty eradication. Funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training, EWSETA offers learnerships, bursaries, internships, and skills programmes in fields like Renewable Energy, Water Treatment, Electrical Engineering, and Environmental Science, ensuring a skilled sector workforce.

EWSETA’s programmes aim to address skills demand and supply, create a sector skills pipeline, and support government’s economic policies. Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen with a valid ID.

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science for learnerships and skills programmes; Grade 12 with Mathematics/Science and tertiary acceptance for bursaries; diploma/degree for internships.
  • Unemployed or employed in energy and water sectors (depending on programme).
  • No prior participation in the same EWSETA programme.
  • Clear criminal record, verified via background checks.

Preferences

  • Candidates from Employment Equity groups (e.g., Black, Coloured, Indian, women, persons with disabilities).
  • Residents of Gauteng, Western Cape, or KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Commitment to completing the programme and contributing to the sector.
