Minimum Requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Administration

  • Register patients and arrange appointments and hospital admissions
  • Update patient information on the hospital system
  • Transfer patient records within the system when necessary
  • Capture ICD-10 codes and patient classification data

Records and Data Management

  • Submit patient files to the Medical Records Department
  • Capture and maintain accurate patient data
  • Record downtime data in line with Circular 11 of 2014
  • Assist with compiling department statistics

Customer Service

  • Respond to patient and public enquiries
  • Provide services according to the Batho Pele Principles
  • Assist with patient-related administrative tasks

Compliance and Teamwork

  • Follow hospital policies and internal procedures
  • Work according to Auditor General requirements and the Ideal Hospital Framework
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and workshops when required

Employees may also be required to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays depending on hospital operational needs.


Added Advantages

The following qualifications or experience will be beneficial but are not mandatory:

  • 2–5 years’ experience in patient administration
  • Diploma or degree in administration
  • Knowledge of Hospital Information Systems (MEDICOM)
