Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Food Service Aid vacancies, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10, Grade 11 or Grade 12 qualification
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety procedures
- Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles
- Ability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
No previous experience is required. However, candidates with experience in food services or EPWP programmes will have an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will assist with food preparation and food distribution within the hospital. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and serving meals to patients
- Assisting with normal and therapeutic diets
- Packing meals according to ward requirements
- Cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils and food preparation areas
- Following infection prevention and hygiene procedures
- Handling food storage and waste management
- Reporting damaged equipment and safety risks
- Wearing protective clothing and maintaining cleanliness standards
Employees may also be rotated to different sections within the food service unit and required to attend workplace training.
