Appointments may be made from Fire Fighter in Training up to Leading Fire Fighter, depending on the candidate’s qualifications, courses completed, and experience.
Purpose of the Job
The purpose of this role is to protect company assets and ensure safety by responding to SHERQ-related emergency incidents. The Fire Fighter will also maintain firefighting equipment, participate in emergency preparedness activities, and ensure readiness to respond to incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) best practices during all emergency management activities
- Perform duties according to instructions and operational procedures
- Participate in training programmes to ensure physical and mental readiness for emergency situations
- Respond appropriately to emergency incidents
- Service and maintain portable firefighting equipment in plants and buildings
- Recondition firefighting and life-support equipment
- Identify and recommend improvements in emergency management maintenance activities
- Contribute to improved service delivery and operational effectiveness
- Participate in safety improvement initiatives
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and team members
- Participate in housekeeping and safety compliance activities
- Participate in KPA and PDP discussions and ensure personal performance goals are met
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with Mathematics or equivalent qualification
- Must be medically fit according to firefighter fitness assessment standards
Preferred Qualifications (Advantageous)
The following certifications will be considered an advantage:
- Fire Fighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001)
- HPCSA Registered BAA (BLS) or First Aid Level 3
- HPCSA Registered ILS
- Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072/472)
These qualifications relate to the various firefighting positions within the emergency management career path.

Candidates will be placed in the appropriate firefighting rank based on their experience, qualifications, and completed courses, in accordance with Sasol’s emergency management career path and company policies.
