Job Overview

The Department of Agriculture is recruiting a General Worker to support the Animal Health Directorate in Skukuza. This role focuses on animal care, facility cleaning, biosecurity maintenance, and support in veterinary operations.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • ABET / Basic Education qualification
  • Previous experience working with wild or large animals (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of Public Service Regulations, PFMA, procurement procedures, and health & safety standards
  • Strong communication, planning, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work extended hours when required

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Cleaning animal holding facilities, cages, stables, and workstations
  • Maintaining strict biosecurity standards
  • Disposal and incineration of waste materials
  • Feeding and caring for quarantined animals and birds
  • Monitoring and recording animal health conditions daily
  • Reporting illness or abnormalities immediately
  • Performing basic animal husbandry tasks
  • Maintaining fences, lawns, gardens, and quarantine grounds
  • Assisting with necropsies and game capture operations
  • Supporting veterinary and clinical activities
