About the Peer Educator Position
Peer Educators play a vital role in connecting communities with essential healthcare services. They work directly with community members by promoting HIV prevention, conducting mobilisation activities, supporting HIV testing programmes, and helping beneficiaries access treatment and care.
The successful candidates will serve as an important link between local communities and healthcare services. They will assist individuals throughout the care process by providing education, referrals, follow-up support, and case management.
This position requires individuals who enjoy working with people, communicating health information, and supporting vulnerable members of the community.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements before applying:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- At least one year of relevant experience or related training.
- HIV Counselling Certificate.
- Certification to conduct finger-prick HIV testing.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and isiZulu.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
- A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage but is not compulsory.

Key Responsibilities
The successful applicants will perform a variety of community-based healthcare duties, including:
Community Mobilisation
Peer Educators will identify areas where key and priority populations gather and conduct mobilisation activities to encourage community members to access HIV prevention and healthcare services.
They will also work closely with community-based organisations, youth ambassadors, community health workers, and local stakeholders to strengthen outreach programmes.
HIV Prevention and Testing Support
Successful candidates will support HIV prevention initiatives by educating communities, assisting with HIV testing services, and ensuring beneficiaries receive appropriate counselling and referrals.
They will also help individuals understand available healthcare services and encourage early testing and treatment.
Case Management
Peer Educators will maintain accurate mobilisation and case management records while supporting beneficiaries throughout their healthcare journey.
This includes monitoring referrals, following up with beneficiaries, and ensuring they are successfully linked to healthcare facilities for ongoing treatment and support.
Community Support
The role involves providing both face-to-face and virtual support to beneficiaries based on their individual needs.
Peer Educators will also help facilitate support groups and encourage treatment adherence among individuals receiving healthcare services.
Reporting and Administration
Successful candidates will:
- Complete mobilisation registers.
- Maintain case management documentation.
- Submit weekly reports.
- Prepare monthly reports for supervisors.
- Participate in staff meetings and programme evaluations.
Accurate reporting plays an important role in monitoring programme performance and improving healthcare delivery.
