About the Learner Firefighter Role

This permanent position offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about public safety and emergency response. As a Learner Firefighter, you will contribute to community safety while gaining valuable experience in the Fire and Disaster Management Services division.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Valid Code B or Code C1 Driver’s Licence
  • CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) certification
  • Physical and mental fitness
  • Medical Test (NFPA 1582 compliant)
  • No criminal record
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and on short notice
  • Ability to work at any fire station or section within the municipality’s jurisdiction
  • Firefighting 1 with First Aid certification
  • Proficiency in at least two of the three official Western Cape languages

  • HAZMAT Awareness / Operations training

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and drive firefighting and emergency vehicles
  • Respond to fire and rescue emergencies
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of vehicles and equipment
  • Prepare reports and maintain records
  • Assist with administrative duties and purchasing/material support
  • Participate in ongoing training and physical development

Remuneration

  • Post Level: T06 (Category 1 Municipality)
  • Salary Range: R155,086.20 – R201,319.92 per annum
  • Benefits: Medical Aid, Pension, Housing Allowance (per policy), 13th Cheque
